COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Life Center in West Valley began building new single suites so that survivors of domestic violence can have their own safe space and personal care—The $820,000 project will change a building that once housed staff and is funded by grants from several charities.  Goodyear Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Goodyear hosts guest instructor Mykyta Serdyuk today from noon to 8 p.m. He is a world champion ballroom dancer from Ukraine & will teach dancers of all levels.  Goodyear Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Litchfield Elementary School District Governing Board approved the final $40.2 million construction contract with CORE Construction at a special meeting held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25. The new Troy Gilbert Elementary School, the district’s 17th campus near Perryville Road and Glendale Avenue, will open in fall 2026 — with a groundbreaking on April 22 and planned completion on July 15 — as part of the district’s 2023 bond projects.  Goodyear Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Goodyear Councilmember Brannon Hampton was appointed to the National League of Cities 2025 Community and Economic Development Federal Advocacy Committee for a one-year term. He will guide federal policy on housing, community development and economic opportunity—drawing on his experience as a small business owner and financial advisor.  West Valley View
  • Goodyear Police Department finished its study and recommended a four-year plan to build the GRIT Center, a real-time crime center that will help officers respond to incidents faster at an estimated cost of $1.4 million for hardware, software, and personnel. City council members will discuss funding during the Fiscal Year 2026 budget process, with no official decision made yet.  West Valley View

  • A 62-page MLB report released in December showed that many pitchers hurt their arms by always trying to throw as hard as they could—injuries rose from 212 in 2005 to 485 in 2024 and more young players now face higher risks.  Goodyear Independent
