- ➤ Renowned jazz percussionist and educator Dominick Moio will lead a free interactive lecture on Brazilian music at Goodyear City Hall’s Canyon Trails Training Room from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on April 29 — he will share his decades of experience and explain the cultural roots and vibrant rhythms of the music. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city council approved a Public Art Plan that sets up six projects to add art to community spaces and recommends $1.07 million in funding (the largest project is Phase 2 at the recreation campus, expected by 2031). Other projects include art along a trail, at the new Fire Station 189, and on traffic installations that will be completed by 2028 and 2029. West Valley View
- ➤ On April 14, the Goodyear City Council reviewed the city manager’s recommended $915.5M fiscal year 2026 budget that funds public safety, infrastructure and city services without raising taxes (no rate increases were planned). City Manager Wynette Reed detailed a five-year Capital Improvement Program worth $790.7M with projects like water reclamation facility expansions (including the Estrella Bridge and new fire station design) and said council feedback will guide revisions before the budget is adopted later this spring.
