- ➤ Families visiting St. Mary’s Food Bank in Surprise have risen from fewer than 200 to over 700 each weekday as prices drive up costs. On May 10, every family in Arizona will be able to help by leaving a bag of nonperishable food at their mailbox so USPS can deliver it to those in need. Goodyear Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fifteen West Valley high school students, including one from Goodyear, were selected for the Gallery 37 summer program and will work at Estrella Mountain Community College to design a public art project for installation in Tolleson later this summer—students will earn college credit, a stipend, and professional mentorship during the program. - ➤ Arizona parents are told to follow a new safety guide that shows how to prevent common injuries in children from falls, car crashes, drowning and mental health issues by using window guards, proper car seats, pool fences and safe storage for medications. The guide also recommends using slip-resistant mats (a tip from Phoenix Children's) and naming a pool boss (a caregiver assigned every 15 minutes) to keep kids safe. Goodyear Independent
