West Valley Mavericks Foundation named Arizona Assistance in Healthcare as its monthly beneficiary—recognizing the nonprofit’s work in helping cancer patients by covering non-medical expenses.

The volunteer-run group, based in Goodyear and founded in 2008, relies on donations, grants and annual fundraising events to cover costs such as groceries, rent and utilities.

Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Center officially opened in Goodyear as a nonprofit space where teens can explore creative arts and access free vocational training—marking the third site in the Valley and the first in the West Valley.

Mayor Joe Pizzillo and Alice Cooper highlighted that the center welcomes all teens without registration and offers opportunities in music, dance, art and production.

The eighth annual Goodyear PebbleCreek Rotary Foundation golf tournament was held on May 4 at the Tuscany Falls East Course—140 golfers raised funds for local programs—and will support youth leadership training, high school scholarships, Title I clothing drives and contributions to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

The City of Goodyear has announced that Trader Joe’s will soon open at GSQ by taking a 13,500-square-foot space, drawing strong community support and local fanfare from Desert Edge High School’s marching band and cheerleaders — additional tenants such as Black Rock Coffee Bar and Firebirds Wood Fired Grill are slated to open in 2026. This development is part of a growing downtown district aimed at creating a vibrant urban core.
