- ➤ Larry Cervarich, founder of Meals of Joy that delivers meals to West Valley seniors, retired on June 30 after 10 years of service—Kevin Barko of Heritage Street Cooks is now the director. Cervarich said he will launch a new nonprofit later this year to continue helping those in need. West Valley View
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Liberty Elementary School District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Loretta Zumbro Elementary School from 4:30 to 5 p.m. on July 31 at 2600 S. 183rd Ave in Goodyear — the campus will open in August for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. A meet-the-teacher event will follow and the 73,512-square-foot facility on a 16.25-acre site will add seventh and eighth grades in the following academic years — the school is named after a longtime district educator. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Goodyear’s Fleet Services Division was named one of the Top 50 Leading Fleets by Government Fleet magazine for the fifth consecutive year in partnership with the American Public Works Association & National Association of Fleet Administrators. City Manager Wynette Reed said the division, which manages over 500 vehicles, keeps emergency services ready for residents. Goodyear Independent
