EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa Community Colleges will enroll 110,000 students this fall, a 15% jump from last year with nearly 91% of students from Arizona and 52% first-generation learners. Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale expects strong growth plus will debut new programs when the semester begins on Aug. 23 to meet local workforce needs. Goodyear Independent
- ➤ The Agua Fria Union High School District board updated that campus projects funded by the 2023 bond include new cafeterias and classroom modernizations. Millennium High School is expanding its cafeteria and kitchen—set to finish in December—while Desert Edge High School has completed a new cafeteria addition and built an agriculture barn awaiting fire marshal approval. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Families and nature enthusiasts will join a Scorpion Safari walk Friday, Aug. 22, at the Gila Trail in Estrella Mountain Regional Park—led by a park ranger who will supervise sessions from 7 to 8 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. as participants search for native scorpions and other nocturnal wildlife, with registration and safety gear required.
