- ➤ Kathleen Berger, a West Valley teacher, is nominated for an AriZoni Award for her music direction of Fountain Hills Theater’s production of Ragtime. The ceremony will take place Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts—she has been nominated twice before as a performer. Goodyear Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new high school opened in Goodyear on the old Phoenix Trotting Park site near Cotton Lane and Interstate 10 — the building now offers a community space for students after the racetrack closed decades ago. Construction began last year on the former harness racing venue that once drew over 12,000 people at its opening. Goodyear Independent
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa County residents will join a butterfly monitoring event on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Estrella Mountain Regional Park in Goodyear—volunteers will learn butterfly identification skills and help gather data to support local conservation. Goodyear Independent
