GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the Goodyear City Council voted unanimously to approve the Estrella 14 Planned Area Development rezoning request—allowing mixed-use development on 1,505 acres with plans for homes and commercial space near Estrella Parkway and Estrella Foothills High School. The new plan reduces residential density and offers open spaces and trails to connect community areas. West Valley View
- ➤ Avondale Mayor Mike Pineda was honored by the West Valley Regional Chamber during an awards gala on Sept. 12 (which recognized public officials for their service) for his dedication to the community and local business. He said he is proud of the recognition and will keep working with local leaders to support growth. West Valley View
- ➤ The West Valley Regional Chamber will host its annual Legislative Breakfast on Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale where local lawmakers, business leaders, and community members will join a panel discussion on upcoming policy priorities and legislative initiatives. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ This October, Vitalant is asking new and returning donors to give blood and platelets to help cancer patients during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The program will hold multiple blood drives across the valley & donors will be entered to win a $10,000 prepaid gift card. West Valley View
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Volunteer mountain bikers will race on Estrella trails at 17567 W Elliot Road on Dec. 6 as the Estrella Cup returns after a five-year break to raise funds for the volunteer-run Estrella Trails Group, which works to keep the trails safe and free. The event will have an endurance course, a short course, and a junior course with up to 200 participants and will include community activities sponsored by the City of Goodyear. Goodyear Independent
