Good morning, Goodyear. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 5th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Goodyear will host its annual Veterans Day Tribute Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Civic Square Park — a free event with live music by Fighter Country, patriotic mural displays, food trucks, and a new Banners of the Brave installation honoring local veterans. Residents may pick up tribute flags and yard signs at City Hall from Nov. 3 through 7 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to show their gratitude.  Goodyear Independent
  • Jerry Santy, a 91-year-old veteran from Goodyear who served in the Air Force for over 20 years, was named Grand Marshal for the HAV Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday, Nov. 11 — he will join other local veterans riding in a car along a route that starts at Montebello, travels south on Central Avenue then east on Camelback Road until reaching Indian School Road from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  West Valley View

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tolleson Union High School District celebrated a solid B average—none of its seven high schools received below a B as three earned A grades and progress from mostly C’s in 2018 shows strong improvement. District leaders say improved test scores, graduation rates, and support for students set the stage for even better outcomes in the future.  West Valley View

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data centers across the Valley are raising concerns as they need large amounts of water to cool servers—officials and developers will soon negotiate water use for planned projects. The rising number of centers may strain local water supplies if usage is not carefully managed.  Goodyear Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sadie Snyder emerged as a volleyball star at Estrella Foothills — she was the lone freshman on a 32-1 team that won its first state title — and she signed to play at Boise State University next year.  Goodyear Independent
